Helicopter induction refresher

Refresher of Western Power’s requirements for overhead power line inspections/patrols by helicopter

Course duration

Half day

Who should attend

Western Power personnel who have the capacity and ability to be an observer in a helicopter for the purpose of identifying faults.

Prerequisites

  • Network Authority Card (NAC)
  • Completion of Helicopter Safety Induction

Course includes

  • recording all details of inspections/patrols undertaken
  • confirming inspection/patrol route with pilot
  • notifying the nominated command centre (NCC) of faults found and any fault restorations that have been completed
  • following the instructions of the pilot at all times when within or in close proximity to the helicopter in all matters relating to operation of the helicopter and safety
  • participating fully in all briefings and debriefings
  • conduct ingthe inspection/patrol according to the current instructions

What to wear

  • PPE Level 1
  • Ear plugs when in the vicinity of helicopters and helmets for helicopter operations will be provided if required.
