Power system familiarisation for non-technical people

This one day training course will provide you with information about the Western Power Network and some of the key equipment used to ensure safe and efficient provision of electricity.

Who should attend

People who require a general overview of Western Power’s Network, structures and equipment.


There are no prerequisites for this course.

Learning outcomes

As a result of attending this training course participants should be able to :

  • demonstrate an understanding of Western Power’s Network
  • identify and demonstrate an understanding of key network structures and equipment
  • demonstrate an understanding of ‘basic’ electrical terms used in the electrical supply industry

PPC and PPE requirements

Some of the training for this course will take place in an operational area. You are required to have/provide Western Power approved PPC and PPE requirements. You will need to have:

  • long-sleeved shirt and long trousers
  • high visibility vest
  • enclosed footwear
  • eye protection
  • hard hat
