Power system familiarisation for non-technical people

Information about the Western Power Network and some of the key equipment used to ensure safe and efficient provision of electricity. A guided tour of an operational substation is included in this course.

People who require a general overview of Western Power’s Network, structures and equipment.



Course includes

  • an understanding of Western Power’s Network
  • awareness and identification of key network structures and equipment
  • an overview of ‘basic’ electrical terms used in the electrical supply industry.

What to wear

PPE Level 0 including:

  • long-sleeved shirt and long trousers
  • enclosed, flat footwear (must provide full protection of foot, ie not sneaker or canvas shoes)
  • high visibility vest, eye protection & hard hat

Additional Information

Practical component of this training will take place at an operational substation – travel to the substation is required (approx. 10 minute drive). If you do not have your own transport, please advise your trainer on the day so that alternative transport can be arranged.
