Implement & monitor WHS policies, procedures & programs

Provides the skills, knowledge and attitude to meet WHS legislative requirements and ensure a safe workplace by implementing and monitoring the organisation’s WHS policies, procedures and programs, in their own work areas.

This course addresses one unit from the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.

Suitable for

Formal leaders with responsibility for managing the health and safety of others in the workplace.

Course includes

  • Providing information to the work team about Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures
  • Implementing and monitoring WHS participation arrangements
  • Implementing and monitoring the organisation’s procedures for providing WHS training
  • Implementing and monitoring organisational procedures and legal requirements for identifying hazards and assessing and controlling risks
  • Implementing and monitoring organisational procedures for maintaining WHS records for the team

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites, however it is recommended that you should:

  • be working in, or have access to, an organisation in which you are able to take responsibility for the work health and safety of a team
  • have language and literacy skills to be able to read and interpret safety legislation, use the internet to locate safety information, document the outcomes of risk assessments and inspections and review and interpret safety data.

Special requirements

Before attending the workshop, you are encouraged to do some research into your organisation’s health and safety policies and procedures, and to bring:

  1. a copy of your organisation’s OHS / WHS policy
  2. an example of one of your organisation’s health and safety procedures
  3. a copy of your organisation’s hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control forms
  4. a copy of your organisation’s incident / injury report form.

What to wear

PTS dress standards (long sleeve top, long pants & enclosed shoes).

Assessments

Written and practical assessments, consisting of:

  • Assessment questions and activities to be completed during the course
  • Third party report from your supervisor confirming practical application of competencies in the workplace.
  • Post-course assessment activities based around:
    • WHS training
    • WHS policies and procedures
    • Hazard identification and team consultation
    • Risk assessment and risk control
    • WHS record keeping

You will have 4 months to complete your assessment after attendance at the course.

Certification

A Statement of Attainment upon successful completion of individual units of competency
