Licence to perform rigging basic level

This five day course is designed to give participants the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake basic rigging work safely and competently.

Who should attend

This course is suitable for people who are required to peform rigging at a basic level.

Note: All prerequisites need to be current.

Learning outcomes

As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:

  • gain a sound knowledge of applicable legislations and standards and risk management associated with related to basic rigging operations
  • undertake steel erection
  • erect hoists (including mast climbing hoists)
  • place pre-cast concrete
  • move plant and equipment using a variety of means including skates, chain blocks, tirfors and other means
  • install safety nets and static lines
  • install perimeter safety screens and shutters
  • install cantilever crane loading platforms

PPC/PPE and equipment requirements

Some of the practical training for this course will take place in an operational area. You are required to have/provide Western Power approved PPC and PPE requirements for the practical work. Refer to the Western Power Work Practice Manual Sections 3.1-3.4, for these requirements.

Note: Power Training Services does not provide PPE, PPC and tools for training courses.


Assessments are included in this course. Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level. When deemed competent a statement of attainment will be awarded.

Note: Successful candidates will be eligible to apply to WorkSafe for their (RB) Basic Rigging Licence. This is a High Risk Work (HRW) Licence and a fee applies. This is directly payable to WorkSafe WA.

Assessments are made against units of competency.
