Perform EWP controlled descent escape

This one day course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to perform elevating work platform (EWP) controlled descent escape procedures in the work place. It specifies the mandatory requirements for self rescue from a raised EWP and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution or rail work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.

Who should attend

It is mandatory for all people working aloft in an EWP to be correctly trained in the current safe working procedures for working in a platform basket and the necessary requirements for a controlled escape from an EWP.


*Network Authority Card (NAC)
*HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
*High risk workers licence for operation of EWP

Learning outcomes

As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:

  • prepare to perform EWP controlled descent escape
  • carry out EWP controlled descent escape
  • complete the EWP controlled descent escape procedure

PPC and PPE requirements

Some of the practical training for this course will take place in an operational area. You are required to have/provide Western Power approved PPC and PPE requirements for the practical work. Refer to the Western Power PPE Procedure Sections 3.1 & 3.2, for these requirements.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Power Training Services does not provide PPE, PPC and tools for training courses.


Assessments are included in this course. Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level. When deemed competent a statement of attainment for UETTDRRF08B will be awarded.

Assessments are made against units of competency.
