Perform EWP controlled descent escape - recognition of current competency

This four-hour course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to perform elevating work platform (EWP) controlled descent escape procedures in the work place. It specifies the mandatory requirements for self rescue from a raised EWP and how they apply in the context of, distribution work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.

Who should attend

Persons required to refresh their knowledge and skills to work from the basket of an EWP.


The prerequisite for attendance at this training course is:

  • Perform EWP controlled descent escape (UETTDRRF08B)
  • Network Authority Card (NAC)
  • HLTAID001 Perform cardiopulmonary resucitation

Note: All prerequisites need to be current.

Learning outcomes

As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:

  • prepare to perform EWP controlled descent escape
  • carry out EWP controlled descent escape
  • complete the EWP controlled descent escape procedure

PPC/PPE and equipment requirements

Some of the practical training for this course will take place in an operational area. You are required to have/provide Western Power approved PPC and PPE requirements for the practical work. Refer to the Western Power PPE Procedure Sections 3.1 & 3.2, for these requirements.

Note: Power Training Services does not provide PPE, PPC and tools for training courses.


Assessments are included in this course. Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level.

Assessments are made against units of competency.
