AMI - Install communication devices
Information session to identify, assemble, install and activate AMI wireless communications devices as well as the care and handling of cables, connectors and antennas.
Note: an understanding of radio frequency and electromagnetic energy is a prerequisite for attending this training.

Who Should Attend
Installer of AMI communications devices – Western Power field crew & external contractors
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:
- Network Access Card (NAC)
- Completion of RF Awareness training
- Cert III in ESI or equivalent
Note: All prerequisites need to be current.
Course Includes
- Explanation of how a mesh area network works
- Safely handling and storing communication kits and cables
- Identifying the components and cables required for the different installations
- Identifying and using the correct tools for the installation
- Assembling an AMI communication device (access point and relay) onto the correct bracket
- Mounting of an assembled device on a pole (steel streetlight pole, wooden pole, stand-alone steel pole)
- Connecting LV supply to network device and performing commissioning
- Correctly completing field commissioning sheets
PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements
PPE Level 1, including:
- safety footwear
- eye protection
- head protection
- gloves relevant to task
- hi vis FR long sleeve shirt
- long trousers OR overalls.
