FAQ’s – Attending a PTS training course

Pre-learning

How will I know if I need to do pre-learning?
If pre-learning is required, this will be detailed in the course information on the PTS website and also in your confirmation of enrolment email.
Pre-learning must be completed before you attend the course.

Why do some courses require pre-learning and others don’t?
Some courses have pre-learning in order to minimise the time you spend in training.

Is pre-learning compulsory for First aid classes?
Yes, all students attending first aid training must complete the pre-learning before attending the face to face class.
Pre-learning is compulsory. If you have not completed the pre-learning, you will not be able to attend the training course. You will be turned away on the day and the full course cost will charged.

How and when do I get my first aid pre-learning?
You will receive an email sent from St Johns no later than 2 days before your first aid course – this will have a link to the St Johns online system so you can access the pre-learning. You will need to log in and complete the online questions.

I can’t access my pre-learning, eg. the email link does not work.
If you have not received your pre-learning email or you cannot access the link, contact St Johns direct on 08 9334 1217.
Please contact PTS if you require any additional support.

Showing ID

Why do I need to show my ID at some courses?
You may be asked to show your ID at the start of a training course so the trainer can confirm that you are the person listed on the attendance sheet. This done so that training records are correct and any certificates or qualifications that are awarded to you show your correct details.

What form of ID do I have to show?
Photo ID is usually required, such as your drivers licence or your employee ID card which shows your name and photo.

What if I don’t have any ID?
Please ensure you have identification with you when attending a course as failure to produce this may mean that you are unable to undertake training

What courses will I need to show ID for?
All nationally accredited training will require you to show ID (such as First Aid Training), however there may be other courses that require this as well.
You will be notified in your course enrolment confirmation email if ID is required.

What to wear & bring to training?

What do I wear to training?
Each course will have a set dress standard – this is detailed in the course information on the PTS website and also in your confirmation of enrolment email.
Due to the technical and operational nature of most of PTS training, specific PPE may be required. The course information will state which level of PPE you will need to wear. For more details of the levels, view the PPE Procedure

What if I don’t wear the correct clothing/PPE?
You will be turned away from training if you do not have appropriate clothing and full training charges will be applied.
If you have any questions regarding what to wear, please contact PTS for clarification.

What is the minimum dress standards for non-operational training?
PTS is an operational training site so even if PPE is not required, the minimum dress standard is

  • long pants
  • long sleeved shirt
  • flat, closed in shoes.

Do PTS dress standards apply even if I am attending a training course on another training providers premises?
Yes, the dress standards stated for each course apply no matter where the training course is conducted.

Do I need to bring any specific equipment to training?
If you are required to bring any specific equipment for the training course (such as tools, safety equipment etc..), this will be detailed in the course information on the PTS website and also in your confirmation of enrolment email.

Course timings

What is the start and end time of training courses?
Start and end times will vary dependent on the training course you are attending.
Unless otherwise advised, the usual start time at PTS is 8am, however check your enrolment confirmation email for details.

Will we have breaks during training?
At the beginning of your training course, the trainer will advise you of the break times.

I have to arrive late on the day of my training, what do I do?
Contact PTS on 9411 7888 to advise that you will be late on the day of your training. Acceptance of your late arrival will be at the discretion of PTS. Depending on how late you will be, PTS may recommend that you reschedule your training to another date.

I have to leave my training early, what do I do?
Discuss your needs with your trainer at the beginning of the training day. Your trainer will advise if this is possible and discuss any specific requirements that you may need to be aware of.

I am running late for my training, what do I do?
Contact PTS on 9411 7888 to advise that you will be late for your training. Acceptance of your late arrival will be at the discretion of PTS.
Depending on how late you will be, PTS may recommend that you reschedule your training to another date.

Certificates

When will a Statement of Attainment or a Qualification be issued?
Statements of Attainment are issued upon successful demonstration of competence against nationally recognised unit(s) of competency.
Once you have completed all of the required units of competency for your qualification and received Statements of Attainment for them you will be issued with a testamur (the Qualification) as well as a Record of your Results.
